– The 11th annual solid waste conference for California
Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) staff and local enforcement
agencies (LEA) is being held to provide an opportunity for interaction
and information exchange between the two organizations.
This year's conference will cover a wide range of topics including
landfill gas, load checking, organics and emerging technologies.

Diamond Bar and Sacramento: Public Workshops on Air Quality
Improvement Program – The Air Resources Board will hold two
public workshops to discuss developments of the Air Quality Improvement
Program (AQIP) guidelines as pursuant to AB 118 (Statutes of 2007), the
California Alternative and Renewable Fuel, Vehicle Technology, Clean
Air, and Carbon Reduction Act of 2007. The workshops will provide an
opportunity for stakeholder input on guidelines for implementing AQIP
and preliminary funding ideas for Fiscal Year 2009-2010. For details

11-15, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: American Society of Human
Genetics Annual Meeting – California Department of Public Health,
Genetic Disease Screening Program Supervisory Research Scientist Marie
Roberson will give a presentation on California’s experience with a statewide
prenatal screening program for chromosomal abnormalities. The observed
performance of this large triple-marker screening program exceeds
generally predicted detection rates for Down syndrome.
California
added inhibin to its screening program in July of 2007 and will be
adding first trimester markers in January of 2009. This study
methodology will be used to measure the performance of these subsequent
screening enhancements in this large interventional program. For more

Sacramento: Auburn Dam Project – The California Water
Resources Control Board has scheduled a December 2 vote on whether to
revoke water storage rights for the Auburn Dam Project. The Board is
taking public comments on the draft order until November 20. Water
rights associated with an Auburn dam
enable the Bureau of Reclamation to store 5 million acre-feet of water
