November

November 3-6, Napa:  CIWMB/LEA Conference – The 11th annual solid waste conference for California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) staff and local enforcement agencies (LEA) is being held to provide an opportunity for interaction and information exchange between the two organizations.  This year's conference will cover a wide range of topics including landfill gas, load checking, organics and emerging technologies.  For details about the conference visit http://www.ciwmb.ca.gov/part2000/Events/08Conf/default.htm

November 5-6, Diamond Bar and Sacramento:  Public Workshops on Air Quality Improvement Program – The Air Resources Board will hold two public workshops to discuss developments of the Air Quality Improvement Program (AQIP) guidelines as pursuant to AB 118 (Statutes of 2007), the California Alternative and Renewable Fuel, Vehicle Technology, Clean Air, and Carbon Reduction Act of 2007. The workshops will provide an opportunity for stakeholder input on guidelines for implementing AQIP and preliminary funding ideas for Fiscal Year 2009-2010.  For details about the program and workshops visit http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/aqip/aqip.htm

November 11-15, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania:  American Society of Human Genetics Annual Meeting – California Department of Public Health, Genetic Disease Screening Program Supervisory Research Scientist Marie Roberson will give a presentation on California’s experience with a statewide prenatal screening program for chromosomal abnormalities.  The observed performance of this large triple-marker screening program exceeds generally predicted detection rates for Down syndrome. California added inhibin to its screening program in July of 2007 and will be adding first trimester markers in January of 2009. This study methodology will be used to measure the performance of these subsequent screening enhancements in this large interventional program. For more information about the program and the meeting visit http://www.ashg.org/2008meeting/

December 2, Sacramento:  Auburn Dam Project – The California Water Resources Control Board has scheduled a December 2 vote on whether to revoke water storage rights for the Auburn Dam Project.  The Board is taking public comments on the draft order until November 20.  Water rights associated with an Auburn dam enable the Bureau of Reclamation to store 5 million acre-feet of water at different times of the year.  For information about the hearing and to read the entire draft order visit http://www.waterrights.ca.gov/Hearings/auburn_dam.html
